Nolan, like Cobb, is an assiduous extractor, and he knows how to wow audiences. But scaling big and thinking big are not the same thing. And dark, just because it's dark, isn't more artistic than light.. The Loft's boorish leads aren't sensible enough to be worth caring about, making the film's character-driven conclusion feel like a self-defeating cop-out.. Whodunit? Even the filmmakers don't seem quite sure. A waste of a perfectly good premise.. Nolan's film is surely the most ambitious psycho...
